Pinhoe Pantomime Society in Exeter, Devon decided to make Climate Change the theme of their production in January 2008. Member Martyn Goss wrote a new panto tale called ‘The Ice Castle’. It told the story of a magical snowy land which is under threat of melting due to warmer weather.
The adventure centres on a thrilling trio who are commissioned by the King of Iceworld to solve the problem. Their subsequent journey takes them to meet some strange and intriguing characters as they struggle against the evil Dr. Morron Moore and his intrepid gang.
This is a novel pantomime set amidst the spectacle of snow and ice, but with all the traditional ingredients of Dame, comedy duo, slapstick, Principal Boy and Girl, and much more. Will the forces of good triumph over the desperate Mines of Doom and the Laboratory of Desires?!
Author Martyn Goss is also directing the world premiere of this production. He commented, “the challenge of this fable is in its topicality. Classical pantomimes generally include a strong ethical dimension, such as the vanity of Mother Goose or the exploitation of Cinderella. In this case it is the consequences of excessive greed on the planet’s future.”
“However, the Ice Castle is very definitely a panto and not a morality play. As such it should be measured by the audience’s participation through laughing and shouting!”, he added.
Public performances of The Ice Castle will run at the America Hall, Pinhoe from 9 – 12 January 2008, including a Saturday Matinee. Tickets will be on sale from Monday 29th October 2007 via the society’s box office on 01392 469179. |
